English Language & Speaking FAQ: Your Guide to Learning in Singapore
Find answers to common questions about improving your English, choosing the right course at Orchard Road, and why ULC Academy is the top-rated choice for students in Singapore.
Core Learning Decisions
How long does it take to speak English fluently?
Fluency depends on your starting level and consistency. At ULC Academy, students typically see significant speaking improvements within 3 to 6 months through our focused communication approach.
Is Singapore a good place to learn English?
Yes! Singapore is an international hub with high standards. ULC Academy, located in Orchard, offers an immersive experience with native-level teachers and a diverse student community.
What is the best way to improve speaking skills?
Consistent practice in a supportive environment. ULC Academy prioritizes speaking time in every lesson, ensuring small class sizes so everyone gets to talk and receive feedback.
Can I learn English even if I am a complete beginner?
Absolutely. We have specialized beginner levels that build foundations from zero. Our native teachers are experts at making new students feel comfortable and confident from day one.
Overcoming Speaking Barriers
Why do I freeze when I try to speak English?
Usually, it's a fear of making mistakes. ULC prevents this by creating a risk-free environment where mistakes are welcomed as learning opportunities, helping you break the ice naturally.
How can I lose my accent?
Intelligibility is more important than losing an accent. Our native teachers focus on pronunciation and rhythm, helping you sound clearer and more natural in any professional setting.
Do I need to think in English to speak better?
Yes, and ULC Academy uses active immersion techniques to bridge that gap. We train you to respond directly in English without translating in your head first.
How do I increase my vocabulary for speaking?
The best way is through context. Our courses teach practical phrases used in real-life Singapore situations, so you learn words you actually need to use immediately.
Group vs. Private Lessons
Should I choose small groups or 1-to-1 lessons?
Group lessons are great for social skills and affordable learning. Private lessons offer 100% customization. ULC Academy offers both so you can choose what fits your schedule and goals.
Are small group classes better than large ones?
Yes. Small groups mean more speaking time and direct attention from the teacher. That is why ULC Academy keeps classes intimate—to maximize your results per hour.
Can I switch from groups to private lessons later?
Yes, at ULC Academy we are flexible. We want you to have the best learning experience, so you can adjust your package as your needs change.
Do native teachers make a difference?
Native teachers provide accurate pronunciation, natural idiomatic usage, and cultural context. ULC Academy's native-certified teachers are the backbone of our quality promise.
Business & Career Support
Can you help me with job interviews in English?
Absolutely. We offer customized 1-to-1 coaching to prepare you for interviews, presentations, and corporate networking in Singapore's competitive market.
Do I learn how to write professional emails?
Our Business English modules cover email etiquette, professional vocabulary, and clear structuring of work communication.
What is the difference between General and Business English?
General English is for daily life; Business English focuses on workplace tasks. ULC Academy combines both to ensure you are fluent in and out of the office.

Prices vary greatly. ULC Academy is one of the most affordable high-quality options, with rates around 20 SGD per hour and zero hidden registration fees.
Are there any registration or admin fees?
